In 1938 a group of men, from the Garden Plan area of Munhall, put together an organization dedicated to protecting life and property through fire fighting activities. On January 17, 1939, the men received approval to file for a charter from Munhall Council.

The charter was filed for and granted during the April session of Allegheny County Courts in 1939. Thus the Munhall Volunteer Fire Company was formed. Munhall Fire Company No. 5 is a 100% VOLUNTEER fire department devoted to the protection of its citizens and the citizens of neighboring communities.
