Renovations to Munhall station #3's (Allegheny County station 202) engine bay were recently completed. The purpose of the renovation work was to widen the garage door in order to facilitate parking the vehicles side-by-side. This allows the vehicles to be pulled straight out of the station instead of making sharp bends in order to get them to fit. Other benefits of the project include improved sight lines when moving the vehicles and more usable space within the station.

The project consisted of moving the utilities, moving the man door and widening the garage door opening. A brand new garage door and opener with remotes for each of the vehicles was purchased as well as custom metal gear lockers to replace the old wooden ones that served the station well for many years.

Station 3 firefighters performed the work to move the utilities and moved all equipment out of the engine bay prior to the beginning of construction. The fire vehicles were moved to Munhall Station #5 when the winning bidder Emm
O Con began construction.

The garage door opening was widened from 12 feet to 20 feet and the entry door was relocated to accommodate the new door. Overhead doors installed the new garage door and opener.

Upon completion of the garage door work the firefighters went to work again by painting the interior of the engine bay and installing the new lockers. They finished off with the railing they installed leading into the entry door. The finishing touch was the new marquee that was installed above the doors by Johnny B's signs. The members of #3 hope to use this marquee to display company events, create a source of income through rentals and to recruit new members.

Total cost of the renovation project was approximately $30,000. Munhall Borough supplied the paint. The rest was completed through the efforts of the firefighters of #3 through state grants and fund-raising efforts.

In conclusion, the members of Munhall Volunteer Fire Company #3 would like to thank the members of Munhall Volunteer Fire Company #5 for their generosity and hospitality as well as a special thanks to State Representative Marc Gergely for his assistance in obtaining funding for the project. The station is located at 2412 Charles Street in Munhall.
